Ski Maine Association is a non-profit association representing the Maine ski industry. Its mission is to increase the availability and enjoyment of Maine skiing and snowboarding for children, families and individuals. Our season begins in November and extends to May 1st! Maine skiing offers a full range of experiences from the community based areas to the full service resorts. Why not try a new area at least one day this season? Enjoy a brand new view, meet other Maine skiers and riders, and maybe discover a favorite new trail for skiing or riding. You are never far from a ski area in Maine and it has never been a better time to get out and enjoy a crisp winter day in Maine and the Mountains.
Greg Sweetser has worked in the winter sports industry for his entire career. His first job in the industry was as a Junior Ski Patroller at Mt Abram, Maine. While attending the University of Maine at Orono, Greg earned his first wages as a ski instructor at Hermon Moutain. From there, Greg taught skiing at Copper Mountain , CO and ski patrolled at Arapahoe Basin, CO. From 1977 – 1996, Greg lived in Rangeley where he managed the sales and marketing of Saddleback Ski Area and its real estate development. Greg’s community service in Rangeley included fourteen years as a Chamber of Commerce Board Member, serving as President and Chairman of the Advertising Committee. In 1996, Greg was named Executive Director of the Ski Maine Association, the non-profit trade association representing Maine’s Alpine ski areas and Nordic Centers. The Ski Maine office is located in Portland. Greg and his family relocated to Cumberland Center to live on the family homestead, a 14 acre farm and apple orchard which was settled by the Sweetser family in 1812. Greg is a member of the Maine Tourism Commission, serving as co-chair of the Strategic Marketing Committee. Greg was the recipient of the 2006 Governor’s Conference on Tourism Award for excellence in recreation. Greg’s current board positions include WinterKids, Maine Tourism Association and Ski Museum of Maine.
Bo Bigelow, Project Director, came to Ski Maine Association in January, 2006. Bo’s duties include coordinating skier development programming, the annual industry trade show, membership development, website administration. A life long skier, his first job in the industry was as a ski instructor in Pennsylvania. While attending the University of Rhode Island he was a member and Captain of the URI Ski Team. After graduation, Bo moved to Boulder, CO to work as the Group Sales and Marketing Coordinator for Moguls Mountain Travel. He left Moguls to take a position in Business Development for Hertz Rent A Car. Bo is currently the Vice Chairman of the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference of the US Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association.
