Dear Friend of Maine Skiing,
The Ski Museum of Maine was established in 1995 to preserve and publicize
the business of skiing in Maine, while celebrating Maine's ski history and
heritage.
More than a decade has been spent collecting and preserving irreplaceable
documents and artifacts, cataloguing those valuable materials, and preparing
for the day when a home could be established where we could store, work on,
and render available for public viewing and examination these rich elements
of the fabric that is the history of skiing in Maine.
The dream of opening
such a facility has been realized, and we now have a home in the heart of
Maine's ski country where we can accommodate our growing collection and can
invite the public to immerse themselves in the story of skiing's evolution
in our state.
With this major step forward, the Board of Directors has assumed
some substantial financial obligations to assure our continued growth with
the retention of a Consulting Curator, Megan Roberts, and a leasehold commitment
at Church Street Commons in Farmington.
We now are asking for your help to
allow us to continue our important work. Please consider joining us as a Member
by completing and returning the on line Membership Application at a level
of your choice.
As a member, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you are
doing your part to celebrate the history of skiing in Maine. In turn, we will
provide you with a decal to display as well as periodic newsletters to keep
you updated on the progress of your Museum.
Our future plans call not only
for the growth of our collection and a revolving series of displays in Farmington,
but exhibits to be located at ski areas around the state and other appropriate
locations. Additionally, through an agreement with the Maine Historical Society,
we will have a growing presence on the web as well. A sincere thank you for
your consideration of this invitation to join us in our important work, and
to visit the Museum when you are able.
Yours in skiing,
John M. Christie
